What is Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)?
From a legal point of view, DWI is an offense committed by an individual who operates a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or Drugs and Narcotics. Is the act of operating a moving vehicle while under the influence any substance, including alcohol or illicit drugs, that may impair one’s judgment, cognition, coordination, reflexes, or ability to react appropriately in traffic.
State laws indicate levels of blood-alcohol content at which an individual is deemed to be under the influence of alcohol. Whereby a showing of complete intoxication is not necessary for a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Most states rely on a standard test that includes both observable impairment in motor function, speech, and balance and an elevated blood alcohol level or a positive screening test for other intoxicants.

Consequence of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI)?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) predicted that three out of ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related crash at some time during their lives.
DWI offenders might be given Probation or minimal time in jail, along with a suspended driver’s license. In some cases, the punishment might be a specified period of community service. It’s also extremely expensive. A first-time offense can cost the driver upwards of $10,000 in fines and legal fees.
If you are convicted of DWI you will lose your driver’s license, although there are several levels of sentences for a DWI conviction, the severity of the consequences for a DWI will depend on your age, your license class and the number of crimes (repeat offenses).
Although there is no mandatory minimum period of incarceration, those convicted of DWI face a sentence greater than 6 months in prison and a maximum fine of $ 2,000 if transporting a minor when arrested.
